Home to the world’s largest concentration of CROs, the Triangle is known as the birthplace of Contract Research Organizations (CROs), with the formation of IQVIA (formerly Quintiles) in 1982. Today, seven of the top 10 global CROs operate in the Research Triangle Region. CROs help conduct clinical trials and provide research support services to biotech, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device companies.
With five medical schools, four pharmacy schools, three comprehensive cancer centers and more, there’s no wonder the Triangle is a Pharmaceuticals and Biopharmaceuticals hub. Our region consistently ranks as one of the top areas for biotechnology, with companies ranging from early stage research to large scale manufacturing.
