Getting Around the Triangle

Interstate highway, I-40, runs right through Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill. Within Raleigh and the immediate area, we also have I-440 aka The Beltline. (File “the Beltline” to memory because you’ll hear locals refer to locations “Inside the Beltline.”) There is also an outer loop, I-540. All three of these highways make for easy navigating around the Triangle and beyond. This close proximity to major highways also places us within two days’ trucking time of 60% of the nation’s industrial base.

Completed in 2018, the ultra-modern Raleigh Union Station currently serves as an Amtrak train station with service on the Silver Star Line, running between New York and Miami, and the Carolinian, with service within the state and on to Richmond and Washington, DC.

Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill all offer public bus service, making it easy to be green and get around. Check out all of the public bus routes in each city below.
